একদিন এক কৃষক এক কলে কয়েক বস্তা গম নিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। মিলটি কয়েক কিলোমিটার দূরে ছিল। পথে ঘোড়া হোঁচট খেয়ে একটা বস্তা মাটিতে পড়ে গেল। এটি খুব ভারী ছিল এবং তাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য তার আশেপাশে কেউ ছিল না। তিনি লোকসানে ছিলেন। এদিকে সে দেখলো একজন ঘোড়সওয়ার তার দিকে আসছে ----

Answer : One day a farmer was taking some sacks of wheat to a mil. The mill was a few kilometres away. On the way the horse stumbled and one of the sacks fell to the ground. It was too heavy for the farmer to lift and there was nobody around to help him. He was at a loss. Meanwhile he saw a horseman coming towards him. As the rider was coming nearer, the farmer recognized him. A nobleman lived in a grand house at the top of the hill. The farmer hesitated to ask him for help if he would take it as insult. So he did not think of approaching the rider. The farmer was at a complete loss. The nobleman stopped in front of the farmer and got off the horse. Then he held one end of the sack and asked the farmer holding the other end. Together they lifted the sack and placed it once again on the horse back. Taking off his cap the farmer thanked the nobleman. In reply the nobleman advised him whenever he saw somebody in difficulty to do his best to help him.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একদিন এক কৃষক এক মিলের কাছে কয়েক বস্তা গম নিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। মিলটি কয়েক কিলোমিটার দূরে ছিল। পথে ঘোড়া হোঁচট খেয়ে একটা বস্তা মাটিতে পড়ে গেল। কৃষকের জন্য এটি তুলতে খুব ভারী ছিল এবং তাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য আশেপাশে কেউ ছিল না। তিনি লোকসানে ছিলেন। এদিকে তিনি দেখতে পেলেন একজন ঘোড়সওয়ার তার দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে। আরোহী যতই কাছে আসছিল, কৃষক তাকে চিনতে পারল। পাহাড়ের চূড়ায় এক অভিজাত বাড়িতে থাকতেন। কৃষক তার কাছে সাহায্য চাইতে ইতস্তত করে যদি সে এটাকে অপমান হিসেবে নেয়। তাই তিনি আরোহীর কাছে যাওয়ার কথা ভাবেননি। এতে কৃষক সম্পূর্ণ ক্ষতির মুখে পড়েছে। সম্ভ্রান্ত লোকটি কৃষকের সামনে থামল এবং ঘোড়া থেকে নামল। তারপর বস্তার এক প্রান্ত ধরে অন্য প্রান্ত ধরে থাকা কৃষককে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন। তারা একসাথে বস্তাটি তুলে আবার ঘোড়ার পিঠে রাখল। কৃষক তার টুপি খুলে অভিজাতকে ধন্যবাদ জানাল। উত্তরে সম্ভ্রান্ত ব্যক্তি তাকে পরামর্শ দিয়েছিলেন যখনই তিনি কাউকে অসুবিধায় দেখবেন তাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করবেন।
