The Somapura Mahavihara.
Answer : The Somapura Mahavihara is the largest single Buddhist monastery in the subcontinent. It was a renowned intellectual centre from the 7th century until the 17th century. Its layout is perfectly adapted to its religious function. It still bears the ancient tradition of early 7th century. The monastery is also an exceptional symbol of Buddhist architecture. Considering its heritage, universal value and rare architectural beauty and design, the Paharpur monastery is declared as a world heritage spot in 1985 at the 9th session of the 21 member international committee. The Pala rulers were Buddhist and they founded a number of monasteries throughout their growing empire. Somapura Mahavihara is one of them founded by the then rulers.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : সোমপুরা মহাবিহার উপমহাদেশের বৃহত্তম একক বৌদ্ধ বিহার। এটি ৭ ম শতাব্দী থেকে ১৭ শতাব্দী পর্যন্ত একটি বিখ্যাত বুদ্ধিজীবী কেন্দ্র ছিল। এটির লেআউটটি পুরোপুরি তার ধর্মীয় কার্যক্রমে খাপ খায়। এটি এখনও ৭ ম শতাব্দীর প্রথমদিকে প্রাচীন ঐতিহ্য বহন করে। মঠটি বৌদ্ধ স্থাপত্যের একটি ব্যতিক্রমী প্রতীকও। এর ঐতিহ্য, সর্বজনীন মূল্য এবং বিরল স্থাপত্য সৌন্দর্য এবং নকশা বিবেচনা করে পাহাড়পুর মঠটি ১৯৮৫ সালে ২১ সদস্যের আন্তর্জাতিক কমিটির নবম অধিবেশনে বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য হিসাবে ঘোষণা করা হয়। পাল শাসকরা বৌদ্ধ ছিলেন এবং তারা তাদের ক্রমবর্ধমান সাম্রাজ্য জুড়ে বেশ কয়েকটি বিহার প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন। তত্কালীন শাসকগণ প্রতিষ্ঠিত তাদের মধ্যে সোমপুরা মহাবিহার অন্যতম।
